A protected townhouse, structurally restored and contemporarily reimagined.
This protected townhouse in Naramachi represents one of LOUCA's most ambitious heritage projects. The structure, dating to the early Showa period, required complete structural reinforcement while preserving its historically registered façade and timber framework.
The interior fit-out pairs solid hinoki wood joinery with washi paper lighting diffusers, creating a warm, tactile environment that honors traditional Japanese craft. The traditional engawa veranda has been reinterpreted as a full indoor-outdoor living space with frameless glazing.
Scheduled for completion in late 2026, the Naramachi Heritage House will stand as a benchmark for how protected historic structures can be sensitively transformed into homes of uncompromising contemporary luxury.
